De Blasio won’t curb crime — even after the latest Times Square shooting

Now Mayor Bill de Blasio is going to “flood the zone,” sending dozens of cops to crack down on the violence and disorder in Times Square. Gee, thanks, Mr. Mayor — but what will it take to do the right thing before something terrible happens?
De Blasio’s move comes after a stray bullet struck tourist Samuel Poulin, a 21-year-old Marine, when a gunman opened fire Sunday in what police say was a turf war over spots for selling bootleg CDs and DVDs.
The month before, flying bullets hit a 4-year-old girl and two others just a block away . . . and the mayor dismissed it as “aberrant.” Oops.
He’s far from the only denier when it comes to rampant crime: “I also want to make sure that . . . this doesn’t drive a hysteria and that we look at these numbers in context,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Saturday. Her solution for the crime wave? “Stop building” jails. (Yes, she actually said that.)
Nor do the mayor’s vows now mean much: He also promised more cops in Times Square last month. How long will they stay this time? And what other area will become less safe as a result?
Fact is, de Blasio, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other officials have been waging war on law enforcement for years — tying cops’ hands, defunding them, releasing criminals to the streets, softening the Parole Board, passing a disastrous “bail reform,” scrapping a key NYPD anti-gun unit and on and on.
The alleged gunman who opened fire in The Bronx recently, nearly killing two kids, was a reputed gangbanger freed on parole, as was his target. So few perps stay locked up these days that thugs feel free to carry — and use — guns on city streets.
Poulin got shot just feet from venues like “The Lion King” theater and Junior’s, an area that should be one of Gotham’s safest. If the city can’t (won’t) protect even Times Square, the chances plummet for any tourism rebound — and so do the prospects for New York’s future.

I feel sorry for the persons whom spent all their lives living, saving and retiring in New York City. Those folks who are apartment dwellers and living on a fixed income. These are the true victims. DeBlasio just doesn't give a shit.
