I
just finished watching Senile Joe The Hairsniffer give a rambling,
40-minute late presentation on the scourge of "gun violence." It showed
a couple of interesting things. Besides the fact he struggles to read a
TelePrompter. (I guess they had trouble getting him to take the
Adderall so he could stay upright and semi-focused.)
He
believes the Second Amendment was designed to protect the rights of
sport hunters. Twice he made an assertion that you don't need a 100
round magazine unless the deer are wearing Kevlar. He completely
ignores the fact that most places have magazine limits while hunting.
He also ignores the fact that the Second Amendment has NOTHING to do
with sports hunting.
He
also stated as fact that the Second Amendment "from day one" prohibited
people from owning certain types of weapons, specifically including
cannon. In fact it was common for private citizens (merchant ship
owners) to have armed ships early on. This armament included cannon.
Unless he thinks the National Firearms Act, passed in 1936, actually
passed in 1787. Which maybe he does. He is, after all, clearly
mentally disabled. He also clearly thinks that semiautomatic rifles are
weapons of war. They are not. They LOOK like they are, but
functionally they are not.
Anyway,
that is his program. Harass gun dealers. Withdraw the liability
shield for legit firearms manufacturers. Make the possession of factory
capacity magazines illegal by calling them "high capacity magazines."
Declare guns you don't like "assault weapons" and prohibit their
purchase. Create more programs for violent ex-felons because he really
believes that violent ex-felons continue to be violent offenders because
they don't have enough programs to keep their brains busy. (His mom
told him that an idle mind is the devil's playground. Assuming that
assertion is correct, his mom got it wrong all those years ago. Idle
HANDS is the correct expression.) Go after "ghost guns" because they
are somehow intrinsically evil.
At
any rate you can count on Old Joe trying very hard to make sure you
can't own any guns he doesn't like, and making sure that people in
authority who share his warped belief will have funds available to
pursue honest, law-abiding gun owners. Fortunately the record clearly
shows that the Clinton Assault Weapons Bill had NO significant impact on
"gun violence." Of course facts have little to do with the issue. It
is an emotion appeal to clueless people or those who already hate guns
and hate people who own guns.
With
luck we will manage to hold off the Philistines for another 18 months,
at which time it is likely we shall have a few additional members of
congress who are not fucking morons and political hacks.
