Every sheriff in the state of Utah has signed a letter saying they will try to protect the Second Amendment, amid proposed legislation and recent executive orders approved by President Joe Biden.

“What is important is that the second amendment to our constitutionally inspired Constitution makes it clear that ‘the people’s right to bear arms and carry them is not infringed’, reads the statement (pdf), signed by all 29 sheriffs in the state, and was released via Cache County Sheriff’s Office, Chad Jensen. “We hereby recognize an important principle underlying the Second Amendment: the right to bear arms and to bear arms is indispensable to the existence of a free people.”

Their letter and promise were “spurred on by increasing public concern” about constitutional rights, namely the Second Amendment.

“As your elected sheriffs, we promise to do everything in our power individually and collectively to unwaveringly protect the Second Amendment and all other individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution,” the letter reads. ‘We understand that the destructive influences that currently exist in our country will only occur if women and men everywhere care for each other. We must rely on Providence and take deep care to preserve the Constitution and its freedoms to be a strong and prosperous people. ‘

Although the letter did not mention specific elected officials, bills or orders at the federal or state level, Democrats in Congress recently introduced or enacted several bills that would improve background checks, banning magazines that contained more than ten rounds, and prohibition of so-called ‘assault weapons’.

Separately, a rule introduced by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) this month at the request of the Biden government will illegally reclassify firearms that have stabilizing pistol struts.

“When individuals use accessories to turn pistols into short-barreled rifles, they must comply with the increased regulations regarding those dangerous and easily concealed weapons,” the Justice Department said earlier this month about the rules. The DOJ also argued that the brackets allow people to “easily convert pistols into these more dangerous weapons” without examining the background or meeting other requirements.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki suggested in April that Biden had the appetite for issuing arms control orders, which came after he announced executive actions to regulate so-called ‘ghost guns’ and proposals for laws on’ red flag ‘.

“The president is not going to wait for Congress to act to take additional action – that’s the beginning,” she said at the time.

Republicans have expressed almost unanimous opposition to the Democratic legislation on guns, as well as Biden’s recent orders. At the state level, several governors have recently signed bills that would do this classify their statements as “Second Amendment Conditions.”
