ARE BACON CHEESEBURGERS ABOUT TO BECOME EXTINCT ?

In California The Answer May Be Yes

by Bob Walsh

In November of 2018 the voters of the formerly great state of California passed Proposition 12, which kicks in in about three weeks.  It was, at least allegedly, intended to prevent cruelty to farm animals by imposing significant new restrictions on farm products that are SOLD (not just raised) in California.

California produces only about 1.5% of all the pork produced in CA.  It consumes a LOT more than that.  Or at least did.  Assuming the talking head on the radio today is right virtually zero of the out of state pork producers have attempted to comply with the stringent (and costly to enforce) restrictions on pork production.

If you like bacon, pork chops or pork sausage you might want to wander out to the store and stock up.  Ballot propositions can not be easily changed by the legislature.  Even if the powers that be decide this was a precipitous idea correcting it will be neither easy nor fast.
