Last days of the US Embassy in Kabul: Nerve center of the war on terror is being gutted of all sensitive material as staff and CIA assets prepare to lower the flag and flee amid Taliban takeover
The US Embassy in Kabul, which has been the been the US's intelligence hub for 20 years and nerve center of the war on terror, is destroying all sensitive material and will be evacuated in 72 hours.
The Taliban's sudden, swift and violent takeover of the country amid the US's military withdrawal has forced the Biden Administration to send 5,000 troops to the Embassy this weekend to protect fleeing staffers.
Its demise will create an intelligence void that could plunge the US into pre-9/11 blindness, unless it can find another nearby country that allows it rebuild it's spy center. '
When the time comes for the US military to withdraw, the US government's ability to collect and act on threats will diminish. That's simply a fact,' CIA Director Bill Burns told Senators in April.

Rampant Taliban ransack the palatial home of top Afghan warlord and US ally General Dostum amid claims fighters have reached the outskirts of Kabul which will fall in HOURS
Insurgents tightened their grip on Afghanistan on Saturday by capturing Mazar-e-Sharif - a large, heavily defended city in the north of the country - in a major setback for the government.
Overnight, they were approaching the capital, with many fearing the city could fall under its control within hours. Claims were made on social media that there were already boots on the ground engaging in fighting - less than three weeks before the US hopes to complete its withdrawal of troops - though reports were unconfirmed.
Meanwhile, the Taliban raided the home of Army Marshal Rashid Dostum - an infamous warlord and a former Afghan vice president who has survived the past 40 years of conflict by cutting deals and switching sides. He has also gained notoriety for crushing prisoners under tanks. A major army commander in the government during the Soviet-Afghan war, he was the key indigenous ally to US Special Forces and the CIA during the campaign to topple the Taliban government in 2001.
On Saturday, fighters wielding guns were filmed walking around the luxurious oval-shaped room, filled with chandeliers and gold furniture, and posing in chairs.
