To a lot of Americans living today that number is ancient history bordering on meaningless.  To others it means irritation when trying to get on board a commercial aircraft.  That is truly a shame.

There are people, LOTS of people, out there in the world who want to destroy us JUST BECAUSE WE EXIST.  We don't think like they do.  We don't dress like they do.  We don't worship like they do.  Or social norms are different than theirs.  These differences offend them so much that they want to kill us and subjugate those of us they don't kill.

It isn't logical.  It isn't reasonable.  It doesn't make sense to us, but it does to them.  Ignoring them won't make them go away.  Pretending they are not there, pretending they are not real, will not make it so.

It's true.  People who don't remember their past are doomed to repeat it.  9-11.  Never forget.  The price of freedom is keeping your head out of your ass.
