A pensioner has blew up his house while attempting to kill a fly with an electric bug swatter.
The accident happened in the Dordogne village of Parcoul-Chenaud, north east of Bordeaux on Friday last, when the 80-year-old pensioner reportedly took out the electric contraption to swat the irritating bug in his kitchen.
The elderly man apparently didn't realise is there was gas leaking into his kitchen at the time, which caused the explosion that seen the kitchen of his home destroyed along with part of the roof.
According to the Daily Mail, an investigating source said the swatter ignited the gas, causing the explosion: 'On this occasion, gas was leaking into the man's house. The very hot zapper ignited the gas, causing a sudden explosion.
'The man was lucky to get away with a burned hand after diving on the floor, but the kitchen was destroyed along with part of the roof.'
The man was treated in hospital following the explosion, and is staying in a local campsite until repairs are carried out on the house.
