H. L. Thom has been charged with the second degree murder of Iremamber
Sykap, 16. Two other officers have been charged with attempted murder
in the same case.
The
prosecutor alleges that Thom fired ten rounds into the rear window of
Sykap's car without any sort of provocation. The car was stolen and had
been used in armed robberies, burglaries, purse snatching and other car
thefts. Thom is asserting that Sykap rammed him with the vehicle, but
body cam footage allegedly does not support this assertion. The cops
have thus far refused to release the body cam footage.
As
far as I recall from news stories on this issue this is the first case
ever of an on-duty Hawaii cop being charged with murder.

I can remember when shooting a fleeing felon was justified. I know. I'm old.
I just read where the local Grand Jury refused to indict the cop. The prosecutor charged him anyway.
You also had to dodge dinosaurs with your patrol car.
