THIS MUST REALLY SUCK FOR THOSE INVOLVED

by Bob Walsh

A state grand jury voted to no-bill a Morris Township, N.J. police officer in the fatal shooting of a 24-year old man who drew down on him with an airsoft pistol back in 2020.  The dead guy, Timothy O'Shea, was the son of Kevin O'Shea, a sort-of retired Morris Township police Lieutenant who was still working for the department as an executive administrative assistant.  The shooter was Sgt. Christopher Cornine, who knew the deceased as well as his father.

When the cops showed up responding to a call they noticed the young man was bleeding from cuts on his neck and wrists.  The original phone report stated that he had cut himself.

The young man refused numerous orders to drop the gun and eventually swung it at Sgt. Cornine, who fired four rounds.  Two struck young O'Shea.  He died at the hospital.

The A. G. investigated in accordance with state law.  There was body cam footage and several eye witnesses to the incident.
