The Oak Fire started earlier today (Fri) between Modesto
and Yosemite in Mariposa County. It was first spotted when it was less
than 40 acres. In a very few hours it expanded to more than 4,000
acres. CalFire is very much afraid that this could turn into a MegaFire
very, very rapidly and are already looking at major evacuations in
Mariposa County.
Too bad
all the fucking tree huggers here haven't managed to figure out that
letting underbrush build up, refusing to remove dead trees and refusing
to cut fire roads does not make the forest better. In fact it has the
opposite result. It does, however, allow the assholes in charge feel
morally superior.

NOTE: It is now (1000 a.m. Saturday) over 7,000 acres and still growing rapidly.
So sad. All California needs is good forest management.
Fire is now (Sun morning) up to 14,000 acres. Zero percent containment. Over 3,000 people forced to evacuate their homes.
