Burglary suspect caught after being ID’d by ‘blood from mosquito’

Mosquitos are known for being irritating and often disease-spreading insects. However, a mosquito in China helped solve a mysterious break-in through a smear of blood.
The thief allegedly entered the apartment through its balcony in the Gulou District of the city of Fuzhou in Fujian province, China, in June, Shanghai Daily reported.
Fuzhou police believe the burglar may have spent the night in the apartment, based on the used mosquito coil, noodle packets and eggshells discovered in the kitchen during the investigation.
The incident was reported to the Fuzhou police on June 11, and when officers inspected the high-rise residential complex, they found a smear of blood on the wall from a mosquito.
Knowing the burglar had possibly stayed in the apartment overnight, the report said they decided to test the blood, noting it was newly smeared and it was strange for the owners to leave blood on the wall.

The thief allegedly confessed four crimes in the area
The DNA test results revealed the blood belonged to a man named Chai, who turned out to have an extensive criminal record and was also linked to three other burglaries, according to Shanghai Daily.
Chai was arrested by police in Fujian province on June 30. He allegedly confessed to perpetrating all four of the crimes and was in police custody awaiting prosecution.
