The most recently released AP Style Guide urges its writing staff to avoid use of the term "assault weapon" when writing about gun crimes because the term is so technically unprecise and so politically loaded. Could it be that somebody there has gotten tired of pimping for the psycho-liberal crowd? It is possible. Maybe not likely, but possible.
