France Fumes at Israel for Deporting French Terrorist
Israel has no right to oust the would-be assassin of a chief rabbi because he, the terrorist, lives in ‘East’ Jerusalem – French Foreign Ministry
A furious France Sunday blasted Israel for deporting Arab terrorist Salah Hamouri, who is also a French national.
At the behest of Israel’s Interior Minister, Ayelet Shaked, Hamouri’s residency rights were revoked, and he was put on a plane to Paris earlier in the day.
Born to a “Palestinian” father and French mother, Hamouri has broken numerous Israeli laws, holds membership in a number of terror organisations, and was imprisoned for plotting to assassinate a former Israeli chief rabbi. He was freed in 2011 along with other terrorists in exchange for the release of Hamas-held IDF soldier Gilad Schalit.
In a statement, the French Foreign Ministry “condemn[ed] the Israeli authorities’ decision against the law [SIC] to deport Salah Hamouri to France”.
Instead of deporting him Israel was expected to ensure that “Hamouri’s rights are respected, that he benefits from all possible assistance and that he can lead a normal life in Jerusalem, where he was born, resides and wishes to live.”
France, along with most of the international community, spurns Israel’s claim to undivided Jerusalem as its capital, and insists that the Arabs living in the city’s eastern neighbourhoods are in fact living in their own, “Palestinian” land.
The French statement continued: “France also took several steps to communicate to the Israeli authorities in the clearest way its opposition to this expulsion of a Palestinian resident of East Jerusalem, an occupied territory under the Fourth Geneva Convention.”
There is, of course, no State of Palestine and no historic national entity with this designation. Israel maintains, rightly, that the Fourth Geneva Convention does not apply to Samaria and Judea, and so also not to part of Jerusalem, because Israel did not take the land by force from another legal sovereign, but in 1967 drove out the belligerent and illegal Jordanian occupying force in a war of self-defence.
