P-22 IS NO MORE

By BobWalsh

Wildlife officials in SoCal decided it was necessary to euthanize P-22 over the weekend.  The big cat was in poor health and had apparently been injured by a car.  It was determined that the most appropriate disposition was to put him down.  Damn shame, but probably the correct decision under the circumstances.

Among his issues were a skull fracture, liver and kidney disease and a chronic skin disease.  He was believed to be about 12 years old.  He was the poster-face for the plight of urban pressure on wildlife habitat.  Ground was broken this year on a wildlife overpass, spanning 200 feet over Hwy 101 to allow critters to move more safely into the nearby Santa Monica Mountains.
