NEW YORK CITY, NY -- Gigi Jordan's bail plea has been revoked by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor on Thursday, December 29, 2022. The pharma-millionaire was convicted of murdering her own 8-year-old autistic son in a hotel room in Manhattan in a sensational 2013 trial. Earlier, on December 20, Sotomayor had granted her bail on an emergency basis, pending further responses by parties after her lawyer filed a petition in the court. It argued that Jordan was deprived of the Sixth Amendment right to a public trial. 

After New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed a brief, arguing there was “[no] compelling reason” for granting Jordan relief, Sotomayor "vacated" her earlier decision and reversed the bail. District Attorney Bragg said in his brief that Jordan’s chances for succeeding in her appeal were ‘highly unlikely’, adding there was a "vast gulf" between the kind of cases the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the defendant, where they had been prejudicially denied an open proceeding. “The closed proceeding did not otherwise affect any substantive matter before the jury,” as per the brief. Due to the reversing of the bail order, Jordan will now remain in custody.

Jordan’s lawyer replied to the brief on December 28, arguing there was no reason to revoke bail. They said, “[T]he States does not (and cannot) dispute that Jordan has been a fully compliant bailee who is neither a flight risk nor a risk to the public. It also does not (and cannot) deny that she has already served the significant majority of her sentence, mitigating its punitive interest in immediate custody," according to The Epoch Times.

In a high-profile case of 2014, Jordan was convicted of first-degree manslaughter for killing her son Jude Mirra in 2010. The pharma-millionaire was found guilty of administering a deadly dose of prescription medications. The killer mom confessed that she did so in an effort to save him from what she referred to as "ongoing abuse". Jordan added that she had wanted to kill herself too on that night Mirra died. Justice Sotomayor agreed with New York and decided to vacate the December 20 ruling, reports Law&Crime. 

Jordan has also asked the justices to grant oral argument in her appeal, which was filled separately with the Supreme Court on November 4. Despite the recent development in the case, the request will be heard on January 6, 2023.
