FREE SPEECH MAY TURN OUT TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE

By Bob Walsh

Prof Rebecca Scofield sues web sleuth Ashley Guillard for accusing her of taking part in Idaho murders Ashley Guillard (L) has accused Rebecca Scofield (R) of murdering the four University of Idaho students

It seems that a TikTok "personality" has determined that a University of Idaho professor was the murderer in the notorious quadruple murder in Moscow, Idaho on November 13 and has announced that fact.  The professor was not amused and has filed a suit for defamation.

The TokTok sleuth is Ashley Guillard.  She has announced that Rebecca Scofield is responsible for the deaths and was involved in a relationship with one of the students.  Specifically she asserts that Professor Scofield planned the murders and directed others to actually commit the crimes.  Professor Scofield has been at the U of I since 2016 and has been head of the history department in 2021. She asserts she has never even met any of the victims, never taught any of them and was out of state when the murders occurred.

Ms. Guillard uses tarot card readings to "solve" crimes and has allegedly solved three murders thereby.

Professor Scofield apparently notified Guillard that the post was inaccurate and asked her to it them down.  She instead made additional posts.

Ms. Guillard allegedly has had 2.5 million hit on her original video post on this subject.  She is up to six posts now on this subject.  She operates out of Texas.  She is questioning why Scofield is suing her if she is in fact innocent.

I have been unable to find out what jurisdiction the suit was filed in.
