The
Hilton Hotel in Oakland on the Hegenberger corridor (between the Nimitz
Freeway and the Oakland International Airport) will be closed down
totally in the next couple of days leaving yet another gaping hole in
things in Oakland. One of the principle causes of the closure is local
crime and people not being wild about staying in an open air toilet.
The
Port Authority, which is the owner of the property, is significantly
worried that the masses of homeless people will simply break into the
building and take up residence once the hotel actually shuts down.
If
you are insane enough to rent a car at the Oakland Airport the rental
companies tell you to NOT stop for anything in Oakland as you will
likely become a statistic.
