Former D. C. Metro Sgt. Enis Jevric, 42, has just been
sentenced for the shooting death of An'Twan Gilmore, 27, three years
ago. He plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and excessive force
six months ago.
Gilmore was
asleep (passed out?) in his car with a handgun in his waistband. Sgt.
Jevric approached him. Jevric was pretty well protected by a ballistic
shield. Another officer tapped on the window and Gilmore awakened and
the car jumped forward. Gilmore had both hands on the steering wheel at
the time. Jevric fired a total of ten shots at the vehicle. None of
the other officers present fired any shots. When the cops opened up the
car Gilmore's pistol was still in his waistband, retained by the seat
belt.
Jevric got five years in prison and five years of supervised probation after release.
Personally
I have a great deal of sympathy for a cop who makes an honest,
understandable error in a stressful situation. I do not believe this
situation qualifies as that. He had been a cop since 2007.

What is going on with the EMPTYING OF MAGS at shootings? I was never trained to empty a mag in someone. I think there is such a thing as overkill.
