Jacob Anthony Bustamante also spells his last name as Bustamantez
This little bit of domestic nastiness played out in July of 2022. Jacob Anthony Bustamantez, now 24, messaged his ex, Faith Elizabeth Valenzuela, 29, for a lift. This occurred (unfortunately for her) shortly after she gave him the heave-ho. She agreed to pick him up near downtown Salinas.
While she was driving he pulled a 9mm "ghost gun" and shot her. Several times. She crashed. He beat feet, leaving a pair of gloves, the gun, a spare magazine and loose ammunition in the car. A cop found the car a few minutes later. Ms. Valenzuela was still in the car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She died in the hospital.
The cops did not have a lot of trouble connecting Bustamantez to the murder. The message was in her phone and identified as coming from him. Two days after the shooting they arrested him. He initially denied any involvement but eventually copped to the whole thing.
Faith Elizabeth Valenzuela
Ms. Valenzuela was the cheerleading coach at Everett Alvarez High School. She left behind a 10-year old daughter.
Bustamantez has a sentencing hearing scheduled for October 2. He is looking at 35-to-life.
