Gavin Newsom, the God-Emperor of the formerly great state of California, does NOT like people making fun of him and his friends and road dogs. It has gotten to the point where the Babylon Bee has just filed a lawsuit in federal court against new laws just signed by Newsom attacking "deepfake" pseudo-news, some of which is clearly intended as parody. Specifically Newsom asserted that a parody of Kamala Harris should be "illegal." The new laws forbid political expression that is considered to be "materially deceptive."
This suit is being joined in by the Alliance Defending Freedom. The suit is specifically filed against CA A.G. Rob Bonta, CA Sec. State Shrley Weber, Los Angeles D. A. George Gascon and Los Angeles City Attorney Hydee Soto.
A conservative social media user, @MrReganUSA, is also challenging the new laws. The Hamilton Lincoln Law Institute has filed a lawsuit on their behalf arguing that these laws have the effect of chilling free speech, especially for political commentary and satire.
The fascism from the left is alive and well in California, at least for the nonce.
