Rayshawn Palmer
This is one of those truly unpleasant things that happens
only very rarely. No criminal liability but probably significant civil
liability.
This happened
on Sunday, six days ago in Detroit, at a Lions tailgate. It was a
double fatal shooting. It seems that the bad guy pulled out a gun and
threatened the good guy. The good guy was faster with his gun, even in
reaction, and shot the bad guy, Jalen Welch, deader than dogshit. So
far, so good. Unfortunately the head shot that killed Welch became a
thru-and-thru and killed an innocent sort-of bystander, Rayshawn
Palmer.
There is (as one
might expect) a fair amount of cell phone video of the basic incident.
The (unnamed) shooter spent three days in the slammer but was released
without formal charges when the DA determined that his action met the
basic requirements of self defense. Palmer's family is not happy and
are asserting that they "want some answers" and will continue their
"fight for justice" with regards to the death of Palmer.
