By Bob Walsh
It is only rarely that the VP choice has any meaning to
the voting public. Operationally it can be different. LBJ certainly
helped get Kennedy elected by ensuring that every democrat in every
cemetery in Texas voted Democrat. It is possible the 1944 election
would have come out different if FDR had not dumped Henry Wallace for
Harry Truman. Usually, however, it is a ho-hum.
This
one might be different. Both men are veterans. Neither is a total
outsider, one is a governor, one is a senator. There are differences
though. J.D. Vance came up from serious poverty into a comfortable
self-made pile of money. He got into a major college and did well. He
wrote an outstanding book that was made into a good movie, and he
probably actually wrote the book himself rather than ghosting it.
Tim
Walz is, IMHO, an intellectual lightweight. Also by any reasonable
definition he has grossly misrepresented his military resume,
repeatedly. He wants to pretend he is a regular guy. He goes hunting.
He likes sports. He puts tampons in the boys bathrooms in elementary
schools. Yeah, pretty much a regular guy.
I
will probably watch it on DVR delay but I might watch it live. It will
be interesting to see if the "moderators" are in fact in the tank for
the democrat-socialists or if the thing will be run more or less
even-handedly.
I am not holding my breath on that.
