This last Monday a possibly rabid bear killed an 89-year
old man, his 56-year old son and 35 kenneled dogs at an animal shelter
in Luchegorsk, a city of about 21,000 people along the Kontrovid river
in the far south-east corner of Russia.
The
local authorities imposed a curfew and isolated the area around the
animal shelter. The bear was hunted down and killed. It was determined
by a local bear expert, Sergey Aramilev, that the bear was
significantly under weight and was almost certainly either injured or
sick or both.
Mother nature can be a nasty bitch.
