Newsmax Media announced Thursday that it had reached a confidential settlement with Smartmatic over a series of false claims that the voting machine company helped steal the 2020 U.S. election from Donald Trump.

The deal came as a jury was about to be seated at the start of a trial to determine whether the rightwing TV channel had deliberately misled viewers about the company and its devices.

Last year a similar lawsuit between Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems was settled for $787 million.
