It seems that the report due out today from Jerry's Toy Train, otherwise known as the California High-Speed Rail Authority, will drop another massive turd. The latest report will indicate that the train will take longer to build than previously believed, will cost more than previously believed, and will deliver less performance than previously promised.
The problem with this is that the HSR Authority was created by a ballot initiative voted on by the people. Performance and costs are built into the authorization. There has already been one court challenge to the now-$67 billion system but the court ruled at that time that the system was only mostly fucked and not totally and irredeemably fucked. The court allowed the farce to proceed on that basis.
With any sort of luck the current report will allow for a successful court challenge and this expensive boondoggle will fade into the oblivion it richly deserves.
