happened to be driving home last evening from my new part-time job as a
washing machine repairman (don't ask) when I heard an interesting blurb
on the news about the California High Speed Rail Project.
It seems that, in order to save money, they intend to single-track the first 171 miles that they are, in theory, building now.
Sort-of
high speed passenger trains heading in both directions on only one
track. I don't see how anything bad could possibly happen there so it
must be good.

These high speed rail projects have come and gone in Texas. It finally dawned on the pushers of these projects that folks in Texas like to drive. Period.
The sad part is I think there MIGHT be a market for decent passenger train service from Sac and SF to LA and from LA to Vegas even. That being said, this isn't doing it. The state of CA could fuck up a wet dream. How the hell are they supposed to build anything more complex than a parking lot?
