HATE OR FEAR? WITH A BIT OF IGNORANCE THROWN IN

I have not  opined much about Impeachment #2 because, IMHO, it is so transparently stupid among other things.

What is going on right now in DC is NOT an impeachment trial.  It is a show trial / witch hunt, with Donald J. Trump as the target.  

Since I have actually read the United States Constitution, something a good number of the members of congress clearly have not, I know that it is not an impeachment.  Donald J. Trump is a private citizen.  He can not be impeached.  The Chief Justice knows that.  He has refused to preside at the "trial", something he could not do if it were an actual impeachment.

The constitution expressly prohibits two types of actions by congress.  One is an ex-post-facto law.  The other is a bill of attainder.  What is going on right now is a bill of attainder directed at Donald J. Trump.  Just because the senate refuses to acknowledge that fact does not make it any less so.

It is clear that a large part of the political power structure in this country, including not as few people who call themselves Republicans, both hate and fear Donald Trump.  They are willing to do ANYTHING, including looking even more stupid than usual, in order to accomplish two goals. One is to prevent him from running again as a matter of law.  Another is to make an example of him to discourage any future outside from even THINKING about running for president.  Yet another is to destroy him and his family totally, partly out of sheer spite and partly (again) to discourage any others in the future.

It is disgusting and it is sad.  Calling it a joke is too kind.
