SYNAGOGUE SHOOTER WILL NOT BE SENT TO CALIFORNIA'S OVERCROWDED DEATH ROW

No Death Penalty For Poway Synagogue Shooter

LAPPL News Watch

August 31, 2021

John T. Earnest sits in San Diego Superior Court on the first day of a preliminary hearing to determine whether he'll stand trial on charges stemming from a April 27 shooting at Chabad of Poway that killed one person and wounded three others.

The Rancho Peñasquitos man charged in the hate-crime attack at a Poway synagogue that killed one woman and injured three others will not face the death penalty in federal court, prosecutors said Monday.

In a terse one-sentence court filing, prosecutors with the Department of Justice said they will not seek the execution of John T. Earnest, 22, in connection with federal charges filed in the wake of the April 27, 2019 attack on the Chabad of Poway synagogue.

The court filing means Earnest will not face the death penalty in either federal or state court.

He pleaded guilty to state charges of murder and attempted murder on July 20 in a plea bargain in which San Diego County Dist. Atty. Summer Stephan agreed not to seek state execution. Under the terms of that deal, Earnest will be sentenced to life without possibility of parole, as well as 121 years to life and an additional 16-year term. He is scheduled to be sentenced in San Diego County Superior Court on Sept. 30.

Meanwhile, the status of his federal case is unclear. In June, Earnest sign off on a conditional agreement to plead guilty in the federal case, which was then forwarded to U.S. Atty. Gen. Merrick Garland.

The U S Forest Service has closed all national forest property in CA to visitors over this coming weekend due to extremely high fire danger.

The entire city of South Lake Tahoe is under mandatory fire evacuation as they are very much afraid the fire will top the crest and start burning rapidly towards the city.  Yesterday the smoke was so bad even fire trucks could not get over Echo Summit due to low visibility.

Hwy 88 is now closed.

The Caldor fire is at the point where it may very well get away from it's minimal control lines (13%, down from 19%) and pretty much destroy the Tahoe Basin and 15,000 homes.  The wind was not being helpful today (Mon) and is expected to do the same tomorrow.  The people under mandatr

The Dixie Fire is also growing, though much more slowly than previously.  It is moving towards Lake Davis with mandatory evacuation orders issued for the area.

NOW FOR THE NEXT SHIT SHOW

The U S military is now formally out of Asscrackistan.  They have acknowledged that there are several hundred US citizens still there who couldn't or didn't get to the airport, and sort of implied it was their fault for being too stupid to get there.  There are also thousands of former US employed locals who are likely to  be roasted alive (literally) or extorted for exit visas if they are fortunate.

So, will the Taliban merely announce that the abandoned Americans "decided" to stay, or maybe extort their families or the US government to release them?  Maybe they will simply torture and kill them for personal amusement and sell off any female children for brides for Taliban goat fuckers.

Of course we could ask Senile Joe what he thinks will happen, but since he is no longer answering questions about Asscrackistan because we are out of there now, we might not get much of an answer from him, even if he is awake when the question is asked.

Multiple Afghan relatives, including children, killed in US strike in Kabul

August 29, 2021

Multiple Afghan civilians, including relatives and children, were reportedly killed in Sunday’s US airstrike near the Kabul airport.

US officials said the drone strike wiped out a vehicle carrying multiple suicide bombers who posed an “imminent ISIS-K threat” to the city’s airport.

The exact number of casualties was not immediately clear, but a relative of those killed told CNN that ten of his family members died in the drone strike.

Several children were among those killed following a US drone strike in Kabul:

Pictured, at top from left: Farzad, age 9, Faisal, age 10, Zemaray, age 40, Zamir, age 20
Bottom, from left: Naseer, age 30, Binyamen, age 3, Armin, age 4, Sumaya, age 2.10 members of the Ezmarai Ahmad family, including seven children, were killed in the US drone attack. Pictured are seven members of that family: At top from left: Farzad, age 9, Faisal, age 10, Zemaray, age 40, Zamir, age 20 Bottom, from left: Naseer, age 30, Binyamen, age 3, Armin, age 4, Sumaya, age 2

Six children, ranging in age from 2 to 10, and three adults were among the dead, the relative told the news outlet.

Islamic prayers were recited for the bodies before they were laid to rest

US officials on Sunday night said they were aware of the reports on civilian deaths, but did not confirm that any had occurred.

Capt. Bill Urban, spokesman for US Central Command, said in a statement that a secondary explosion from the drone strike could be to blame for additional deaths.

“We know that there were substantial and powerful subsequent explosions resulting from the destruction of the vehicle, indicating a large amount of explosive material inside that may have caused additional casualties,” Urban said.

“We are still assessing the results of this strike … We would be deeply saddened by any potential loss of innocent life,” the statement continued.

Two American military officials told the Associated Press that multiple suicide bombers were inside the vehicle that was targeted.

The vehicle was parked in a compound between two buildings near the airport and was struck by a Hellfire missile after individuals were seen loading explosives into the trunk, a senior US official told AP.

It appears the secondary explosion severely damaged one of the buildings next to the vehicle, the official said.

The brother of those killed told CNN that they are “an ordinary family” with no ties to any terrorist organizations.

“We are not ISIS or Daesh and this was a family home — where my brothers lived with their families,” he told the network.

At least three of the children and their father were in their own vehicle, preparing to leave for a family event, when they were killed, the relative said.

The US airstrike is the second since Friday and comes as officials wind down the historic evacuation of tens of thousands Americans and Afghan allies from Hamid Karzai International Airport ahead of Tuesday’s deadline to withdraw.

On Thursday, a suicide attack left more than 180 people — including 13 US service members — dead at the airport Thursday. President Biden on Saturday warned that another attack could be imminent.

The US’s military cargo flights continued their runs into the airport Sunday, ahead of Biden’s Tuesday deadline to withdraw all troops.

ALTHOUGH THE MAN WAS NOT HANGED, THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PICTURES IS THAT SOME TALIBAN FIGHTERS CAN FLY A HELICOPTER

Chilling video of  of what appeared to be a 'hanged' man dangling from US Black Hawk stolen by Taliban goes viral

Man dangling from helicopter.

At first glance (top picture) it would appear the man was hanged, but a closer look reveals the man is in a harness, which wraps under the arms, not around the neck and he  is waving to the people below

A video that of a Afghan man dangling from an American Hawk helicopter has gone viral on social media. Apparently, during a "patrol" of Kandahar city, this helicopter was seen flying around with what appears to a man hanging by his neck with his hands tied. This video has been reportedly viewed more than two million times.

On Sunday, August 29, 2021, the footage was shared by the Talib Times, which claims to be the "official news source" for the current "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan," via its Twitter account. The pro-Taliban video showed the man hanging from what looks like a UH-60 Black Hawk chopper produced by the US. "Our Air Force! At this time, the Islamic Emirate's air force helicopters are flying over Kandahar city and patrolling the city," the video's caption read. The clip was shared just a day before the final U.S. troops were expected to leave Afghanistan.

The video created a lot of furore as people watched it in shock. Many even replied commenting on the grave nature of the incident. "Are you hanging people off of helicopters and expect us to be ok with it???" one user wrote. Frantic people wondered if this kind of graphic content is ok to be shared on Twitter. "Hey @TwitterSupport @TwitterSafety You all good with videos of them bragging about hanging people in mid air with their hands tied behind their backs? @Jack" one user asked. While the video has not been verified as per news reports, it has been shared by many people on social media.

On Thursday, August 26, 2021, a suicide bomber had detonated an explosive near the gates of Kabul's airport killing American service members and Afghans trying to flee the country from the Taliban. ISIS-K, an Afghanistan-based affiliate of the Islamic State, reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. When the United States responded with a series of drone attacks on ISIS-K targets, 10 people including six children were killed

Has the Taliban seized American weapons?

When the Taliban took back power, they seized hundreds of weapons and artillery pieces supplied to the Afghan army by America, including Black Hawks and Humvees, all-terrain military vehicles. Over the years of the conflict, the US government provided the Afghan National Army with thousands of weapons and pieces of military equipment. According to a U.S. government accountability report, between 2003 and 2016, America gave a huge amount of military hardware on the Afghan forces it fought alongside. This includes  358,530 rifles of different makes, more than 64,000 machine guns, 25,327 grenade launchers and 22,174 Humvees.

A report by US-based Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (Sigar) said that at the end of June, the Afghan Air Force previously operated 167 aircraft, including attack helicopters and planes. The report added that at least 3,012 Humvees were provided to the Afghan National Army between December 2017 and June 2021. On Monday, August 30, 2021, the two-decade U.S.-led war officially came to an end, as the final military plane departed the international airport in Taliban-ruled Kabul, amid a chaotic airlift to transport out of the country Americans and allied Afghans that collaborated with them during the war.

Taliban 'patrol' using Black Hawk?

Many people have shared the video. "New video of a Taliban operated Black Hawk heli, circulating on pro-TB accounts. #Afghanistan" one wrote, adding, "I swear I don't know what's going on here." Another added, "Video shows Taliban fly one of the captured UH-60A Black Hawk Helicopters with what looks like someone hanging from a rope underneath. #Kandahar | #Afghanistan". One shocked user said, "This is disgusting! This the worst of humanity! Evil!" Another cried, "This brought me to tears! God help us all!!!!" One tweet summed it up succinctly, saying, "Primitives."

Some disagreed that it is a hanging at all. "I have military friends saying this is NOT a hanging and that his head would snap off from the lift". To which, another user explained, "That’s possible when merely hanging by the neck. Your military friend is not familiar with show hangings. This guy was likely dead before the tied the noose. They tie the rope around the torso as well just below the arm pits. Whether on a helicopter or a wall, it can hang [for] days."

Woman says husband, 71, missing after 'death roll' with alligator during Hurricane Ida The alligator ripped the man's arm off as he fell unconscious and drowned in the floodwaters

An elderly man from Slidell, Louisiana is feared to be dead after he went missing following an alligator attack in Hurricane Ida floodwaters. The 71-year-old man, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police yet, was attacked by an alligator in his shed as Hurricane Ida flooded the area. According to a warning issued by Cynthia Lee Sheng, the president of Jefferson Parish, alligators are likely to be lurking in the floodwaters and rescue workers ought to be extra cautious while looking for survivors. "Unfortunately the worst-case scenario seems to have happened. This is an area that has a lot of swampland, alligators, very dangerous conditions. [Search and rescue crews] had to wait for the sun to come up this morning. They had a strategy," she added.

Captain Lance Vitter, the spokesperson from St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, revealed that the missing elderly man was staying with his wife at their home near the Southeast Louisiana Wildlife Refuge. Before the alligator attack, he had reportedly gone downstairs to check on something in his shed, which was inundated several feet underwater. It was around this time his wife heard a splash and rushed to find him in the throes of a large alligator.

Initially, his wife, who is in her mid-60s thought that the man had skipped and fallen into the water but then she found him under attack by the alligator, who "had him in a death roll". The woman tried to save him by fashioning a tourniquet but by the time she returned, the alligator had ripped off his arm already. The man reportedly fell unconscious, leaving his wife in a state of horror and confusion. Eventually, she pulled him aside and managed to get on a pirogue, while paddling to the sheriff's office. But by the time she returned, her husband was nowhere to be found. It is being speculated that he got carried away in the waters. As per latest update, his body is yet to be recovered.

The incident was elaborately reported by the St Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office to issue a warning to the local residents.

"The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an apparent alligator attack, which occurred around midday Monday (August 30). At approximately noon Monday a resident in Avery Estates off Highway 90 in Slidell contacted the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office after her 71-year-old husband was attacked and apparently killed by an alligator while walking in flood waters following Hurricane Ida."

"She told deputies she was inside her residence when she heard a commotion and went outside to see a large alligator attacking her husband. She immediately ran to her husband’s aide in an attempt to stop the attack. Once the attacked stopped, she pulled her husband out of the flood waters, and returned inside to gather first aide supplies. When she returned and realized the severity of his injuries, she immediately got into her pirogue and went to higher ground, which was approximately a mile away, to get help. When she returned her husband was no longer lying on the steps. STPSO used high water vehicles and flatboats in an attempt to locate the victim, but as of this time all attempts have been futile."

"The incident is under investigation and no other information is available at this time. Sheriff Randy Smith warns residents to be extra vigilant with walking in flooded areas as wildlife has been displaced as well during this storm and alligators and other animals may have moved closer into neighborhoods."

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said that her order for anyone looting the city is to "Lock 'em up."                                               New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell

While videos circulated on social media of some New Orleans businesses appearing to be cleaned out by looters, Mayor LaToya Cantrell emphasized at a press conference on Monday that “there is no widespread looting operation going on throughout the city of New Orleans,” and vowed to lock up anyone caught in the act.

Cantrell confirmed that the police department has already arrested some individuals.

“My directive has been very clear: Lock ’em up,” she said. “We will not tolerate it and we have not tolerated it. So we have apprehended those individuals associated with the looting that we have been able to identify, but there is no widespread looting going on in the city of New Orleans.”

She instead chose to highlight the good Samaritan’s who’ve helped their neighbors since the hurricane passed.

“What we do have that’s widespread are residents who are neighbors, who are understanding and exhibiting the spirit of humility, of empathy, who are clearing up their lawns, who are servicing their community. That’s widespread in the city of New Orleans.”

The city suffered widespread damage, including in its iconic French Quarter as a result of the Category 4 hurricane, and the true extent of the damage has yet to be realized.

The storm has claimed the lives of at least two individuals so far.

RFK'S OLDEST SON WANTS DECISION TO PAROLE SIRHAN OVERTURNED

                                                                           Joseph P. Kennedy II

The oldest son of Robert F. Kennedy, denounced the possible parole of the Palestinian man convicted of killing his father in California in 1968.

"Two commissioners of the 18-member California Parole Board made a grievous error last Friday in recommending the release of the man who murdered my father," Kennedy wrote in the emailed statement released Sunday. "I understand that there are differing views about ending the sentence of this killer, including within my own family. But emotions and opinions do not change facts or history," former congressman Joseph P. Kennedy II said.

"The prisoner killed my father because of his support of Israel," Kennedy wrote in a separate statement. "The man was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death. Yet he now may walk free, no doubt to the cheers of those who share his views. Let there be no mistake, the prisoner's release will be celebrated by those who believe that political disagreements can be solved by a gun."

The board on Friday found that Sirhan Sirhan, 77, no longer poses a threat to society, noting that he had enrolled in more than 20 programs including anger management classes, tai chi, and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

"We saw the improvement that you've made and all of the other mitigating factors, and we did not find that your lack of taking complete responsibility" for the crime as proof of currently being dangerous to society, parole board commissioner Robert Barton said.

Due to laws passed in 2018, the board was required to take into account this time the fact that he had suffered childhood trauma from the conflict in the Middle East, committed the offense at a young age, and is now an elderly prisoner.

The board found that despite the magnitude of the crime, he wasn't likely to reoffend and didn't pose an unreasonable threat to public safety.

The ruling will be reviewed over the next four months by the board's staff. Then it will be sent to the governor, who will have 30 days to decide whether to grant, reverse, or modify it.

"I hope the full parole board will reverse the decision over the ongoing review period and that the California governor, if faced with the choice to release him, will keep him in prison to serve out his full life sentence," Kennedy wrote.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom's office issued a statement Monday saying the case now is before the board, and he can't comment until it is before him "without compromising the legal validity of his decision."

Robert F. Kennedy was a US senator from New York and the brother of President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963. RFK had been seeking the Democratic presidential nomination when he was gunned down at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles moments after delivering a victory speech in the pivotal California primary. Five others were wounded.

Joe Kennedy II is one of RFK and Ethel Kennedy's 11 children, nine of whom are still alive. Two of them, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Douglas Kennedy, said they supported the release of Sirhan.

Joe Kennedy and five of his siblings said Friday they opposed parole and pledged to fight the process every step of the way. He was joined by Courtney Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, Christopher G. Kennedy, Maxwell T. Kennedy, and Rory Kennedy.

Joe Kennedy said Sunday that anyone who kills for political reasons should "know that he will at a minimum spend life in prison without parole."

Kennedy, on a more personal note, spoke of growing up without a father.

"The prisoner left a pregnant mother of ten without a husband and soon-to-be 11 children without a father."

He added: "We miss him every moment of every day, and struggle to understand why the prisoner should be able to enjoy the golden years of his life when he so viciously stole them from our father."

Sirhan was originally sentenced to death but that was reduced to life in prison, Kennedy noted.

"My mother, Ethel Kennedy, and my uncle, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, asked that his death sentence be reduced to life imprisonment as a demonstration of mercy. He received that mercy," Kennedy wrote. "No one should have the right to alter the lesser sentence requested by the person most affected by my father's death – his wife, whose last child would never know a father's touch. Nothing written, said, or done will ever change that reality."

HOUSTON GANGBANGERS WHO SHOT DEAD VACATIONING NEW ORLEANS COP SHOULD RECEIVE THE DEATH PENALTY!

Two Men Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Off-Duty Detective as He Dined with Friends on Restaurant Patio

Vacationing New Orleans police detective Everett Briscoe (left insert) was shot dead by Anthony Rayshard Jenkins (top right insert) and Frederick D, Jackson at the Grotto Ristorante in Houston

Two men have been arrested for allegedly murdering an off-duty, out-of-town police detective who was dining with friends.

Frederick D. Jackson, 19, and Anthony Rayshard Jenkins, 21, killed 41-year-old Everett Briscoe during a botched robbery last Saturday on the patio of a restaurant in Houston, Texas, authorities announced in a press conference on Friday. The suspects also allegedly injured the detective’s friend Dyrin Riculfy, who remains in critical condition. Riculfy remains in a coma, suffering from a gunshot to the head, according to a KHOU report.

Briscoe was out with a group dining on the patio of Grotto Ristorante, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner previously said. Two gunmen approached. The chief described a robbery, in which the group complied. One of the suspects opened fire, however, striking Briscoe and Riculfy, according to this account.

“It makes no sense,” Finner said, voicing outrage and sadness at Briscoe’s death.

The chief is now announcing that police arrested Jenkins at an apartment complex in southwest Houston. Investigators also seized a Nissan Altima consistent with the description of the suspect vehicle. A SWAT team arrested Jackson on Thursday, the chief said.

Both suspects are charged with capital murder and attempted capital murder, said Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg (D). The death penalty is on the table, and prosecutors will review the case to determine which punishment to seek, Ogg said.

There is no evidence to indicate that the alleged motive was anything other than a robbery, said Houston police Lt. John McGalin. Police are still investigating who fired the fatal shots, he said. Cops have not recovered the guns, he said. Both men allegedly participated in local robberies. Surveillance footage showed them committing the crimes and also engaging in behavior indicative of stalking people to commit robberies, the lieutenant added. The alleged motive was seeking high-end jewelry.

Ogg said both men were already out on bond for previous offenses. Jenkins, a member of the Young Scott Block gang, was out on bond for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Ogg said. Jackson, who McGalin said belonged to a different gang, was out on bond for an aggravated robbery in 2020. He forfeited a $40,000 bond in January 2021, and did it again for a $150,000 amount in Aug. 11, when he cut off his ankle monitor, Ogg added.

A third individual is a person of interest in the case, but Ogg and McGalin declined to elaborate.

“Detectives believe there is a third male who has knowledge of the incident,” the Houston Police Department said in a statement. “The male is considered a person of interest and is being sought for questioning. His identity is not being released at this time.”

SO, WHAT HAPPENS TOMORROW IS ASSCRACKISTAN?

by Bob Walsh

It is Monday morning, August 30, as I type this out.  We are supposed to be gone tomorrow.  Senile Joe has promised we will be gone tomorrow.  I do not know anybody, with the possible exception of Senile Joe, who actually thinks we can accomplish what we said we wanted to accomplish in that time frame.  So, what will happen?

Possibility one.  We will in fact get everybody out who wants to get out in that time frame.  I think that is about as likely as Howie being the next Pope, but you never know.

Possibility two.  We got almost all of our own people out, pretend we got out all of the natives who want to get out, and let the rest get killed.

Possibility three.  We acknowledge we still have people in-country but leave anyway and keep saying that we think the Taliban will protect them and get them out because it is in their best interest to do so.  It is barely possible that will happen.  It is also barely possible I will be elected the next Archbishop of Canterbury.  I think the two things are about equally likely.

Possibility four.  Our people will become hostages.  The locals who worked for us will become dead.  I suspect this is most likely, but I could be wrong.  I have been wrong before.  I put $15 on Sonny Liston against Cassius Clay in 1963.

Possibility five.  The goat fuckers will do something really public and really nasty and we will go back in.

Damned if I know how it is going to turn out.  The only thing I am pretty sure of is it will make us look like idiots.

CALDOR FIRE UPDATE

by Bob Walsh

This one is getting potentially very bad.  Both Hwy 50 and Hwy 88 now closed.  Even fire trucks can't get over the Hwy 50 pass.  Kirkwood has been evacuated.  They are evacuating a hospital in South Lake Tahoe.  The fire is spotting over the crest of the Sierras onto the east side.  If it gets away from them into the Tahoe Basin it could destroy 15,000 buildings, mostly houses.  It is so smoky it is difficult or impossible to run aircraft on it.  Containment went DOWN today from 19% to 13%.  Wind tomorrow will be blowing towards the east in the morning, which is exactly what they don't want.

WARNING: PUT YOUR TESLA ON AUTOPILOT AND IT WILL SEEK OUT EMERGENCY VEHICLES TO CRASH INTO

Another Tesla reportedly using Autopilot hits a parked police car

Tesla slams brakes on inquiry into 500,000 electric cars accidentally accelerating

                                          Tesla Model 3

The Florida Highway Patrol reported the accident just before 5 in the morning Saturday along Interstate 4 in Orlando. No one was seriously injured in the crash, though the Tesla did narrowly miss hitting a state trooper as he left his car to assist another driver who had broken down on the highway.

The broken-down car was a Mercedes that had come to a stop in a travel lane. The police cruiser was stopped behind it with its emergency lights flashing. The left front of the Tesla Model 3 crashed into the side of the police car, and then hit the Mercedes.

"The driver stated that [the Tesla] was in Autopilot mode," said the report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration disclosed earlier this month that it is investigating at least 11 accidents involving Teslas that have hit police cars, ambulances or other emergency vehicles while they were responding to traffic accidents. The crashes under investigation occurred between January 22, 2018, and July 10, 2021, across nine states. They took place mostly at night, and the accident response scenes were all outfitted with control measures such as emergency vehicle lights, flares, illuminated arrow boards and road cones, according to NHTSA.

Florida police said they would report the crash to the NHTSA and to Tesla.

The highway safety agency said that it is important that Tesla owners using Autopilot remain alert and ready to take control of the car in order to avoid obstacles.

"NHTSA reminds the public that no commercially available motor vehicles today are capable of driving themselves," the agency said in a statement. "Every available vehicle requires a human driver to be in control at all times, and all state laws hold human drivers responsible for operation of their vehicles."

Tesla did not respond to a request for comment on the latest crash or on the NHTSA investigation. Although the company says that its data show cars using Autopilot have fewer accidents per mile than cars being driven by humans, it does warn that "current Autopilot features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous."

In addition to the NHTSA probe, Senators Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Edward Markey of Massachusetts, Democrats who have been critical of Tesla in the past, have asked the Federal Trade Commission to launch an investigation into whether Tesla's use of the term "Autopilot" and its claims about the car's self-driving capabilities amount to misleading advertising. The FTC has not commented on whether it has launched the requested probe into Tesla's claims.

Driver-assist options such as Tesla's Autopilot or adaptive cruise control, which is available in a wide range of vehicles from various automakers, do a good job of slowing a car down when traffic ahead slows, said Sam Abuelsamid, an expert in self-driving vehicles and principal analyst at Guidehouse Insights.

But Abuelsamid said those vehicles are designed to ignore stationary objects when traveling at more than 40 mph so they don't slam on the brakes when approaching overpasses or other objects on the side of the road — such as a car stopped on the shoulder. Fortunately most of these automatic braking systems do stop for stationary objects when they are traveling at slower speeds.

The bigger problem, according to Abuelsamid, is that many more Tesla owners appear to assume their cars can, in fact, drive themselves than do drivers of other vehicles with automatic driver-assist features. Moreover, the cues that a driver would see when approaching an accident site, such as road flares or flashing lights, make more sense to a human than they might to an auto drive system.

"When it works, which can be most of the time, it can be very good," Abuelsamid said about Tesla's Autopilot feature. "But it can easily be confused by things that humans would have no problem with. Machine visions are not as adaptive as humans'. And the problem is that all machine systems sometimes make silly errors."

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Police have arrested 45-year-old Raphael Rosado after he and his son were involved in a firefight with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) on August 29. According to reports, Rapahel picked up his son Michael's gun and began shooting at cops, after Michael was hit in the shootout with the police. Raphael was subsequently arrested with charges still pending at the time of reporting.

The shocking and violent scene near the intersection of Valentine Avenue is just the latest example of New York's gun violence issue, which has already taken several lives and injured numerous others. In May, a shooting in Times Square injured 3, including a 4-year-old girl. In another shooting at Times Square in June, a newly-wed marine was injured by a stray bullet. On August 19, a close friend of Ice-T, Joseph Bryan, was fatally shot in Long Island.

The incidents are just a small example of the many that have rocked the city, with 165 shooting incidents logged in June 2021 alone (compared to the 205 in June 2020). The staggeringly high numbers have been attributed to various factors, and have become a key issue for voters ahead of the city's mayoral elections this year. In the latest incident, Raphael and Michael were reportedly involved in a violent argument with a group of people, that soon led to an intervention by two off-duty officers, before turning deadly.

Who is Raphael Rosado?

Little is known about both the father and son, who appear to have extensive rap sheets. According to reports, Raphael has been arrested over 60 times in the past for various reasons including drug possession, assault, and weapon possession. His son, 24-year-old Michael also has a prior criminal record, having been arrested for aggravated driving without a license and other minor offenses. Further information about the due could not be obtained. They don't appear to have a presence on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

We do have extensive information on the incident that led to Michael's death, and Raphael's arrest. According to the NY Daily News, the pair were engaged in an argument with a group of people at around 4 am a block from the New York Police Department's 46th precinct. It's unclear what they were arguing about, but it quickly turned physical with CCTV footage showing Michael running to his car and returning with a gun.

Michael was spotted shooting several times by two off-duty cops. The brave cops identified themselves and told Michael to drop his weapon, but he didn't comply. Michael reportedly began firing at the cops, who returned fire. One of the bullets struck Michael on the chest. The firefight drew the attention of other officers, who quickly swarmed the area. Raphael picked up his son's gun and began firing at the cops before running away. Minutes later, he returned to the scene, without the gun to attend to his dying son, but was promptly arrested.

Police attempted to provide first aid to Michael before he was taken to St Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The two off-duty cops weren't injured in the fight but reportedly taken to Jacobi Medical Center for ringing in the ears. The group arguing with the Rosado's is still at large, as is a woman Rapahel passed the gun to before he was arrested. According to one of Raphael's friends, he has a history of getting into trouble but was never known to be violent. "I wouldn’t say he was a bad (man) but he got into a lot of trouble. Sounds kind of like a father protecting his son. … It’s sad but it happened," an unidentified individual told the Daily News.

MAYBE BIDEN CHECKED HIS WATCH WONDERING WHERE KAMALA WAS

Truth behind video showing Biden 'checking watch' during ceremony for slain US troops revealed President Biden checks the time while bodies of troops killed in Kabul are transferred from plane to body vans

President Joe Biden's gaffes and mistakes have become great fodder for his critics, and on August 29 he provided them with fresh ammunition. There are claims making the rounds that the President checked his watch, while he was at Dover Air Force Base to mark the 'dignified transfer' of the 13 US service members killed in Kabul on August 26. Well, we now have video footage to support their claims, and it doesn't paint a good picture of the President.

Biden has been struggling to fend off attacks from his critics in recent weeks, as the Afghanistan debacle has only gotten worse. The mother of one of the marines killed called the president a ''feckless piece of crap' during a radio show. On August 26, Biden appeared to break down during a press conference, a photo that quickly went viral and led Donald Trump Jr. to dub it a sign of "weakness". Conspiracy theorists also had a field day the same day, when Biden said "I was instructed" to call on reporters.

The latest round of criticism comes after Biden's actions at Dover AFB, which have led to several tweets by Republicans. We thought it was necessary to fact check, since the last time the GOP criticized Biden (during his August 27 meeting with the Israeli PM), it turned out to be fake. So did Biden really check his watch? It appears as if this time, his critics may have actually got one right.

Did Biden check his watch?

The controversy stems from Biden's actions during the return of the bodies of the 13 service members killed in Afghanistan. As the coffins were carried past him at the base, the president stood with his right hand on his chest. Shortly after the coffins went past him, Biden appeared to lift his left hand up and look at his watch. It was just a quick glance, but many eagle-eyed users on social media spotted the movement as videos went viral.

Based on numerous footage of the event, it appears that Biden did really check his watch. As you can see in the below tweet, Biden quickly flicked his wrist to grab a look while next to Jill Biden during the ceremony, before putting his hands behind his back. Journalist Nicholas Fondacaro noted, "It's true. Joe Biden checked his watch during the dignified transfer of the servicemembers killing in Afghanistan at the airport. You can see him jerk his left hand to pull the watch out from under his sleeve, then look down at it."

The moment led to a massive slew of criticism against Biden, not just from the Republican party, but also veterans. After the ceremony, Biden and Jill spent some time with the families of the fallen. The couple was accompanied to the ceremony by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and the heads of the military.

'Avoidable death boring you Joe?'

"Make this trend: The Man Responsible for the death's of 13 soldiers checks his watch while the soldiers caskets are being carried into the trucks right in front of him Apparently Joe Biden had better things to be doing Disgusting," one person tweeted. Another asked, "Did Joe Biden just check his watch? All of this avoidable death boring you, Joe?"

One conservative pundit said, "I remember when I was told that Joe Biden was Mr. Empathy. Looks to me like he’s an uncaring, self-centered politician who sent people to their deaths and he’s looking at his watch because he can’t wait to get out of there." Another tweeted, "Did I really just watch Joe Biden fake empathy then immediately after callously check his watch - while attending the Dover Air Force Base’s ceremony for the 13 marines who died in Afghanistan?" Another user slammed, "Biden checks his watch as fallen troops are carried off the aircraft. Guess he would rather be somewhere else or maybe he is wondering how long until bedtime."

The visit to Dover AFB was unscheduled according to reports. The President, FLOTUS, and others first went inside the C-17 Globemaster, where they spent a few minutes praying before they came outside for the transfer. The coffins were loaded onto smaller vehicles, where after positive identification will be taken to their final resting place.

PAT GARRETT'S COLT WORTH MUCH MORE THAN ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD

Gun used to kill Billy the Kid sells for $6 million

Pat Garrett’s Single Action Army Revolver, Serial Number 55093, used to kill Billy the Kid

The Wild West continues to capture the imagination of the world. And, on Friday, a piece of New Mexico history during this era broke a record at auction.

The Colt Single Action that Lincoln County Sheriff Pat Garrett used to shoot Billy the Kid in the chest on July 14, 1881, killing the outlaw, was bought for $6,030,312.

According to auction house Bonhams, it sold for over double its high estimate of $3 million – setting a world auction record for a firearm.

“The previous record for a firearm was $1.98 million, set by Christie’s in 2002 for a pair of flintlock saddle pistols carried by (George) Washington during the Revolutionary War that were gifts from his friend and ally the Marquis de Lafayette,” said Jessica Stanley, Bonhams senior press manager.

The revolver is part of the collection of Texas-based collectors and college professors Jim and Theresa Earle. The couple have been assembling a collection of firearms for decades.

Stanley said this was the first time Garrett’s gun had been up for auction.

While Garrett’s pistol is the star of the show, “The Early West: The Collection of Jim and Theresa Earle” included 265 lots.

These include the most important and well-documented collection of historical firearms belonging to Western lawmen and outlaw legends, along with manuscripts, photographs and memorabilia. The lot also includes more of New Mexico and Old West history, including:

• Billy the Kid’s Whitney Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun taken from Deputy Bob Olinger and used to kill him during the Kid’s dramatic Lincoln County Courthouse escape on April 28, 1881. It was estimated to go for between $200,000-$300,000. It sold on Friday for $978,312.

• Wild Bill Hickok’s Springfield Trapdoor Rifle buried by his side at Deadwood, South Dakota, on Aug. 3, 1876. Its estimate was between $150,000-$200,000. It sold for $475,312.

• The most famous of Bat Masterson’s Colt Single Actions, ordered July 24, 1885, from the Opera House Saloon, Dodge City, Kansas. It was estimated to fetch between $200,000-$300,000. It sold for $375,312.
