is how labor relations works in the public sector. The California
Correctional Peace Officer;s Association just cut a check for $1.75
million for the Gavin Newsom recall defense fund. In addition the
"prison guards" just got a very decent pay raise from the state (those
who are still employed any way).
CCPOA
is a very "flat" organization and these sort of decisions are made by
elected officials, not paid staff. The local chapters elect local
boards. The 34 or so local boards elect the state board. A service
counts the votes. It is actually pretty much on the up-and-up.
Personally I found it disappointing, but then again I have been retired
for over 16 years and those who still have to work for their crust of
bread may very well have a legitimately different point of view.
