YOU SCRATCH MY BACK

by Bob Walsh

That is how labor relations works in the public sector.  The California Correctional Peace Officer;s Association just cut a check for $1.75 million for the Gavin Newsom recall defense fund.  In addition the "prison guards" just got a very decent pay raise from the state (those who are still employed any way).

CCPOA is a very "flat" organization and these sort of decisions are made by elected officials, not paid staff.  The local chapters elect local boards.  The 34 or so local boards elect the state board.  A service counts the votes.  It is actually pretty much on the up-and-up.  Personally I found it disappointing, but then again I have been retired for over 16 years and those who still have to work for their crust of bread may very well have a legitimately different point of view.

Not the first time CCPOA has made a disappointing, stupid decision.
Probably won't be the last.
