Chris Christie's niece reportedly kicked off plane, injured six deputies in Thanksgiving disturbance
Shannon Epstein, 23, is the
niece of Chris Christie, formerly governor of New Jersey. She was
arrested on board an airliner headed to New Jersey over the Thanksgiving
holiday for six counts of battery among other things.
Apparently
Ms. Epstein approached a family on the plane she thought to be Hispanic
and asked them if they were smuggling cocaine. That made the people
around her a bit nervous. At some point the crew contacted the
Jefferson County S. O, who apparently handle police services at the
Louis Armstrong International Airport, and asked that she be removed
from the aircraft. She injured six of the deputies, including one she
bit and one she kicked in the nuts.
She
was eventually hauled off the plane by force and handcuffed to a
chair. She played the "I have important relatives" card, which didn't
impress the deputies even a little bit.
She
did make her $10,750 bail and so is no longer at the Jefferson Parish
slammer. Though she may have had to take the Hound to get home.
Neither the S. O. nor Spirit Airlines offered a comment. Mr. Christie also declined comment.
I strongly suspect there was some alcohol or other intoxicant involved, though it is possible that she is just as dipshit.
The case will almost certainly be moved into federal jurisdiction.
