I know some of the contestants who participate in the Houston rodeo’s BBQ cook-off. They’ve told me that all during the Texas-style slow-cooking process they drink plenty of beer. It looks like Officer Hamby must have gotten pretty pickled during the process and for that his competitors had a good cry.
MICHAEL HAMBY: HPD COP ACCUSED OF THROWING TEAR GAS AT BBQ COOK-OFF COMPETITOR
By Richard Connelly
People take the barbecue seriously in Texas. But even some competitors would draw the line at throwing tear gas.
Not Houston police officer Michael Hamby, if reported allegations are true. Media outlets are saying he's been relieved of duty after allegedly tossing a tear-gas canister into the tent of a competing team at the Barbecue Cook-Off after an argument. Sources tell KTRK Hamby is denying the charges, although he's not talking to reporters.
The incident apparently happened during the festivities Friday, when Hamby, 51, was off-duty and competing with a team in the cookoff.
Tempers flared with a team in a nearby tent, and at some point, the allegations say, in came a tear-gas canister.
A little taste of Libya!!
HPD is not commenting on their investigation, but the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo does solemnly note that Hamby has resigned his position of captain on the Calf Scramble Committee.
No word on whether the tear gas helped or hurt the flavor of affected entries.
