Six Central American countries took part in the Central American Forum for Israel – Guatemala, Panama, Honduras, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua – and signed a declaration of support for the Jewish people and the State of Israel during the event.

Emphasizing their commitment to educating future generations about the Holocaust and fighting antisemitism, including recognizing the IHRA (The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) working definition of antisemitism, they declared: “We stand against antisemitism and hatred of all kinds. We support the IHRA as countries and institutions around the world do to simplify law enforcement and deal with the consequences of antisemitism in a correct and just way.”

The event was led by the Jewish Effect Center together with the international Combat Anti-Semitism Movement (CAM), the Israel-Guatemala Friendship League, the Congress of Guatemala and the Jewish Community of Guatemala.

Guatemala’s President Dr. Alejandro Eduardo Giammatti declared at the event: “Israel’s enemies are our enemies, and the friends of Israel are our friends. We have declared Hezbollah an enemy organization for the state of Guatemala, declaring that we will never receive any economic investment that may come from groups or countries affiliated with Hezbollah.”

Also attending the event were MPs from Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Panama, Honduras and El Salvador, and US senators and congressmen.

Israel Foreign Minister and Alternative Prime Minister Yair Lapid said at the event: “We stand shoulder-to-shoulder in the fight against global terrorism. One major step is to outlaw Hezbollah, and I am grateful to those who took the step and call on every country to follow suit.”

Robert Singer, Chairman of the Jewish impact Center: “Throughout most of my career, I have worked to promote relations between the Jewish people and our friends around the world. I am proud to say that the people of Guatemala and Central America are among the strongest allies of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, and for that I would like to thank the President, Congress, the government and the Guatemalan people. I am pleased to promote this special event of the Movement to Combat Anti-Semitism, the Jewish Impact Center, the Congress of Guatemala, and the Central American Forum for Israel, to rally the regional states, to create a united front of Central America calling for Israeli support, and to stand together against antisemitism, anti-Israelism, and hatred.”
