An unnamed 55-year old woman was taken into custody by the local constabulary in Cheshire (U.K.) for the crime of posting a misleading item on social media.

The full charge is "suspicion of publishing written material intended to incite racial hatred" which is a violation of the Public Order At of 1986 and "spreading false communications" a violation of the Online Safety Act of 2023.  The Chief Superintendent, Alison Ross, states that the woman is currently "assisting officers with their investigation."  (Damn, I love that phrase.)

The post in question related to the mass stabbing incident at a Taylor Swift-themed children's dance class in Southport.  The bad guy, a 17-year old named Axel Rudakubana, has been charged with three counts of murder and ten counts of attempted murder.  Rudakubana is of Rawandan heritage but is apparently a native-born citizen of the U.K.
