YES, BOATING DOES HAVE RULES

by Bob Walsh

A twelve-year old boy being pulled by a speedboat on an inner tube was plowed under by his own tow boat in Lake Shasta in NoCal on Monday. The boy's life jacket was recovered. The boy wasn't.

The person driving the boat was a juvenile female. An adult on the boat, Robert Noftz, 50, or Red Bluff, was arrested for Boating Under the Influence and booked into Shasta County Jail.

Due to the age of the actual driver the only adult on the boat, Noftz, is being legally considered the operator and is being charged.

None of the persons involved except Noftz has been identified. The boy is still considered to be missing. The life jacket had propeller damage on it. The relationship between Noftz and any of the minors was not available.
