Baby recovered alive after being cut from missing Mexican woman’s womb

Rosa Isela Castro Vázquez, 20, was killed when her unborn baby was cut out of her.
An eight-months-pregnant Mexican woman died after a couple cut her open to rip out her unborn baby — who was miraculously rescued alive, according to officials.
Rosa Isela Castro Vazquez, 20, was last seen last Wednesday after heading to meet a woman she’d chatted with online who’d promised to give her hand-me-down baby clothes, local authorities said.
After Vazquez went missing, her husband alerted cops to the online chats, which showed she had planned to meet the woman at a pharmacy near her home in the eastern state of Veracruz, local reports said.
Surveillance footage showed the mom-to-be meeting the suspect outside the pharmacy and being bundled into a car, the reports said.
The pregnant woman’s body was finally found Saturday during a raid on a ranch, with the unborn child cut out, prosecutors confirmed.
That same day, a woman only identified as Veronica “N” raised suspicions when she took a newborn to Veracruz Regional Hospital and was unable to prove it was hers, the local reports said.
Officials confirmed that when Veronica “N” and her partner, Gonzalo “N,” were arrested, “they had a newborn minor with them, which was rescued safe and sound.”
The pair appeared before a judge Monday, accused of kidnapping and femicide.
They allegedly sliced open the victim to get her fetus because the woman attacker was unable to have children herself, an official linked to the investigation told Agence France-Presse.
Suspect Veronica “N” reportedly couldn’t have kids of her own.
Gonzalo “N” was also arrested and charged with kidnapping and femicide.
More than 3,700 women were murdered in violence-plagued Mexico in 2021, of which around 1,000 were classified as femicides, according to official figures.
Similar shocking crimes have also been committed in the US, albeit rarely. Last month, Taylor Rene Parker, 21, was sentenced to death in Texas for the killing of Reagan Michelle Simmons-Hancock, 21, and her infant daughter in New Boston in October 2020.
