There have, within the last few
days, been at least six known attacks against power stations in the
Pacific north-west, coming just days after the biggie in North Carolina
recently. Many of these attacks have been made with firearms and could
have resulted in power loss to residential customers. The FBI is known
to be investigating the Moore County, N.C. incident.
These
west coast incident have involved four different power companies
including the Bonneville Power Administration and Puget Sound Energy,
The
U. S. electrical grid consists of about 6,500 power plants, 55,000
substations and about 450,000 miles of transmission lines. This
infrastructure is clearly more than a little sensitive to deliberate
sabatoge.
