In 2016, staff at CCC discovered a large bag containing $212,520 worth of
drugs, tobacco, cell phones and cell phone chargers
Buried deep within the intestinal tract of the CA budget
just passed this week is a little zinger that will close the California
Correctional Center near Susanville, CA not later than June of next
year. It is one of two large prisons in the area and employees about
1,000 people.
The item in
the budget is an apparent attempt to sidestep a lawsuit filed by the
city of Susanville asserting that the closure violates both the
Environmental Quality Act and the state Penal Code. A Superior Court
Judge issued an injunction against the closure after the suit was filed
last year. The state currently operates 34 prison facilities. DVI at
Tracy closed about ten months ago. The governor has said he wants to
close more prisons to save money and let people out who do not need to
be locked up. Like criminals for instance.
