 Rachel Zion Clay fired at Grady County Sheriff’s deputies while intoxicated  

 

BRIDGE CREEK, OKLAHOMA: A woman who was detained by police officers and put behind the patrol vehicle has now been charged after she fired at them. Rachel Zion Clay was handcuffed last Friday, August 12, near County Street 2960 and Quail Haven road after homeowner Dale Moses called 911 because of her strange activities.

As per reports, the cops then took her to their car but she somehow succeeded in freeing herself from the double-lock cuffs and got her hands on the officer's weapon – an AR-15 assault rifle — from the gun compartment. The body cam footage then showed the 36-year-old loading a magazine into the firearm, “flipping the rifle's flashlight on and pointing it out of the rear window, and firing,” the Daily Mail reported.

The unwarranted attack apparently left one of the responding cops, Deputy Keith Williams, and Moses wounded. Both were rushed to the hospital but were soon discharged. It has been said that the whole drama went on for hours before Clay handed herself over to the deputies. An examination on her discovered that she was high on methamphetamines.

The woman has now been charged with "intent to kill" and her bail is set at $1 million. Describing Clay’s violent actions, Grady County undersheriff Gary Boggess said, “It took her about 15, 20 minutes to figure out how to operate the gun. She was pushing buttons. She was frantic.” He also claimed, “A ricochet actually hit our deputy, grazed him in the back of the neck, and then, what we're figuring is a piece of shrapnel, or the bullet, hit the homeowner's dad in the chest.”

In the aftermath of the incident, Boggess shared that the police department will modify the processes. “One, I will say is our console. Where it actually said gun and she was able to see that, that's gonna be replaced. We're gonna put a switch someplace else in the vehicle to lock our gun. It's a freak deal. It's one of these, probably, I'm not gonna say one in a million. But you know, it's one of those deals that, you know, once it happens then you go back and try to make sure it never happens again. And that's what we're looking at,” he added.

The Grady County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page also posted about the incident. A post on August 12 read, “Today we had a Deputy that was shot and gazed, with non-life threatening injuries. He is resting at home this evening with his family. Please keep him and our office in your prayers.” The statement prompted a lot of comments with one saying, “Prayers for fast healing & comfort! And prayers for all involved in today’s event. Thank you all for your hard work & dedication, not only today, but always! Today’s events could have had a very different ending, but you all showed extreme patience & proof that y’all’s job & mission is to protect & serve. Thank you for protecting & serving our community on so many levels!”

Another wrote, “Prayers always did you all have water today ?Im so glad it ended peacefully.If you need water donated I can put that out to the community I will be happy to donate Gatorade and water.” “Prayers for the Deputy and his Family and prayers for all Law Enforcemet that tries daily to keep us safe!!  Thank you!!!” a third added.
