Joe Biden has finally decided to
throw a bone to the people he promised one to three years ago. He has
decided that he will (without any legal authority to do so) forgive the
debt (that is compel taxpayers to pay it) of people with college degree
debt, up to $10,000.
Of
course this will screw over people (like myself) who have a degree who
did it on their own dime. We for sure are not getting a refund (from
ourselves). So all those trolls who have been living in their parent's
basements because their degree in Contemporary French Literature with a
minor in Creative Masturbation is not automatically getting them a job
for $125K per year out in the real world will have us to pay for it,
because that is "fair."
Senile Joe also extended the moratorium on payment of student debt to the end of this calendar year. That was nice.
It
is still not real clear what he believes is his legal right to do this
absent specific legislation. It is my understanding that the lawsuits
will almost certainly be filed almost immediately. We are talking about
roughly $300 billion dollars, so it is not exactly chump change. Even
Nancy Pelosi has said that he has no legal authority to do this.
One
nice thing about this plan. With a bit of luck it will solidify a lot
of middle America, the people who don't have college degrees or paid for
theirs themselves, against Senile Joe and his "Vote For Me, I'm Santa
Claus" plan to attract voters. Many of those people are the folks in
the middle 20% who typically decide elections in this country.
