A woman was killed yesterday in a freak accident on board an commercial air liner. The plane, while in flight, threw a fan blade from the left engine. The debris hit the fuselage and broke a window. That caused a sudden depressurization event and partly sucked the woman out thru the window before other passengers pulled her back in. She died. I am not sure if she was hurt by flying debris or injured by being sucked thru the window or simply died from cold and oxygen starvation. I am sure we will hear soon.
Generally speaking commercial air travel is very safe, right up there wish passenger elevators and school buses as far as passenger-miles goes. That being said, shit happens. If you a nearby when it does you may get splashed.
