Alameda is a very nice California city. It is an island smart enough to be separated from Oakland by a tube and a couple of bridges. Escalating housing prices have managed to keep the low-lives from Oakland from encroaching fully.
The city manager is Jill Keimach. She could have her ass handed to her on Monday because she secretly taped a meeting with two city council members who she believed were going to unduly pressure her into hiring their road dog to be the new Fire Chief.
Ms. Keimach was put on paid administrative leave by the council after they learned of this transgression
City Council members Malia Vella and Jim Oddie had "warned" her that it would be in the interest of "labor peace" if she appointed the past head of the fire fighters union to be the new chief. That man, Domenick Weaver, had a lot of support for the position. Presumably the man is at least not incompetent or he would not have been head of the union. That, of course, does not mean he is a good fit to be Chief. Also, it seems that the man does not meet the MQs for the job. Big problem there.
Both Keimach and her lawyer insist the taping was legal and was done with the knowledge of the City Attorney. The city attorney has declined comment.

I think there may be a violation of the open meetings act. No wonder the city attorney is mum.
