Maria V. Santiago, 56, worked as a babysitter. On May 14
she was driving somewhere with the two-year old and 11-year old in her
care. The 2-year old was not restrained in any way in the back seat and
managed to unlatch the door and fall out. The babysitter ran over him,
and managed to stop the car on the kids legs. She had to be directed
by someone attracted by her screams to move the car off of the child.
The
cops then discovered that Ms. Santiago had left a nine-year old at home
in charge of a four-year old and a two-year old while dinner was
cooking on the stove.
She
was arrested last Monday by the Clinton, CT. police on a number of
charges relating to child endangerment. She has been released from
custody with the charges still pending.
I have a hunch her babysitting (in her home child care?) set-up is probably in the crapper right now. As well it should be.
