The Park fire burning north and west (mostly) from Chico
now has burned 621 square miles, just about 400,000 acres, making it the
4th largest ever in the formerly great state of California. In
comparison the city of Los Angeles covers 502 square miles. This
weekend the humidity will be low, the temperature will be high and the
winds will be significant. These are bad conditions for wildfire
control.
There are more
than 4,000 fire fighters on the job and air assets from five western
states are fighting the fire. The fire has destroyed 318 single family
homes and at least another 200 structures.
